Current and former residents of Bedeque and surrounding communities are invited to help preserve and celebrate local food traditions through a new heritage cookbook project. The cookbook will serve as a legacy artefact for future generations while providing a new fundraising stream for the Bedeque Area Museum.
The cookbook will bring together treasured family recipes, community favourites, and historical materials that reflect the unique culinary traditions of the Bedeque area. Alongside recipes, the project will feature stories, photographs, and archival materials that highlight the connection between food, farming, fishing, church suppers, family gatherings, and everyday life in the region.
Organizers are seeking submissions of recipes that have been shared around kitchen tables, served at harvest suppers, packed for the potato fields, brought to church teas, or passed down through generations.
Submissions are welcome from all members of the community and may include:
• Family recipes
• Traditional PEI dishes
• Seafood recipes
• Baking and preserves
• Holiday foods
• Recipes connected to farming, fishing, or community events
• Stories and memories connected to Bedeque food traditions
Contributors are encouraged to share a short story or memory alongside their recipe, including who taught them the recipe, when it was served, or why it is meaningful to their family or community.
Recipe submissions will be accepted until September 6, 2026.
