Freetown Royals Down S’Side Aces 6-2 to win Sr. Championship Title

Congratulations to the Freetown Royals in winning out over the Summerside Aces in the Prince County Senior Hockey League finals. They took the fourth and final game in the series with a convincing 6-2 score. The crowd on Friday Night was the largest in the history of Civic Stadium even beating the large crowd when the Boston Bruins played the Saint John Beavers here a few weeks ago. In all nearly 6,000 fans attended the games. In the final game 2636 paying fans jammed the Civic Stadium. The first game was tied at 3-3 and the Royals took the second game by a 7-3 score, while the Aces won the third encounter 13-8 in overtime. Carrol Delaney presented the trophy to team captain Clayton Mill following the game.
Willard MacDonald fed both teams to their hearts’ desire at Andy’s Seafoods following the game… One fan handed Eustace Reeves (Royals’ defenceman, assist on first goal) a $20 bill following the game. He was extremely happy. The Freetown Team played 26 games this season, winning 15, tying 3 and losing 8…The Freetown team won a number of trophies this season, winding up with the MacFarlane and Delaney Trophy….Callbeck’s Store in Bedeque donated pop all season to the team and they appreciated it….Walter Campbell has a five year old son and reckons he will keep on playing for another ten years until his young son takes over.
