Mystery Items
June 11th, 2014
Though the tools which enter the museum are often easily identifiable and to some extent common knowledge, the item shown in the photos below has managed to once again stump the museum staff. This artefact, which operates off a hand-driven crank, blows a sufficient amount of air to be deemed a fan, however the purpose of the fan is quite unknown. While guesses range from the purpose of stoking a fire to separating wheat from the chaff, there doesn't seem to be one solid answer. Anyone with guesses are invited to send their ideas to the museum at bahsmuseum@outlook.com in order to get to the bottom of this mystery!

Recently, the museum has been fortunate enough to receive a collection of stuffed birds which range in species from the common blue jay, the provincial bird of Prince Edward Island, to a number of tropical birds. Bird fanatics are invited to identify this large specimen whose species has remained somewhat of a mystery. Any guesses can be sent to the museum through email at: bahsmuseum@outlook.com.

This artefact appears to be a small multi-tool which would have been used to either alter small parts on a mechanical device or perhaps to be used for repairs. There appears to be three purposes to this tool as a pair of tweezers, a wrench, and what appears to be a small indented dish on the rotating arm. Other than “PATENT APL’D FOR” which is stamped on the piece, there doesn't appear to be any other writing indicating the company name or model number. If you have any ideas as to what this may be or what it was used for, please feel free to respond with a guess as we are quite stumped!
